Studium General - Language and Technology

FLA-Karangmalang. Tuesday (12/12) Faculty of Languages and Arts State University of Yogyakarta held a Studium Generale in the field of language and education entitled “Language and Technology” at PLA Seminar Room 3rd floor. In the speech delivered by the temporary replacement of the Dean of Faculty of Languages and Arts State University of Yogyakarta he expressed his hope that the audiences can get the benefit form the Studium Generale and applied it in the real situation.

Discussion about the use of technology in language education was delivered by Prof. Dr. Supyan Hussin, the Director of Alam dan Tamadun Melayu, National University of Malaysia. Prof. Dr. Supyan Hussin told about the application of technology that is used to help the classroom teaching and learning process such as,, Zoom, Telegram, Google Translate, and so on. By using the technologies in the learning process, it can make the learning process is not only done in the classroom but also it can be done wherever and in any situation. This technique was applied in Prof. Dr. Supyan Hussin class. The assessment can be done by monitoring students activeness in answering every given quizzes.

The discussion was continued with the talk about the age groups and their learning process and the teachers roles in handling those age groups in line with the education. In this era of technology teachers are expected to adapt and make use of the technology well. The last discussion was about how teachers must be able to motivate their students to be able to learn actively and make use of the existing media.

The Studium Generale that was run for two hours was ended with taking pictures together with the students of undergraduate, graduate, and post graduate of State University of Yogyakarta.[translate : denok/evanda]
