English Camp 2016

FLA-Karangmalang. On Thursday 29 September 2016 until Saturday 1 October 2016, five of the students of English Education Department of Yogyakarta State University joined an event in the Indonesia Air Force Academy. The event that has been held is called English Camp 2016. The event that was conducted for, more or less, three days, was an annual event in the Indonesia Air Force. It was conducted as the follow up of the Intensive English Class that has been enrolled by the officers of the Air Force Military. Some of them became the committee of the event and some others were the participant. So besides their regular routines, they also had to conduct the English Camp 2016 in order to fulfil the requirements of the Intensive English Class. Not only from Yogyakarta State University, but students from other universities such as Universitas Gajah Mada, Yogyakarta Muhammadiyah University, Ahmad Dahlan University, Sanata Dharma University, and Atma Jaya Unniversity were also invited to join this event. There were also two Universities that are supervised by the Air Force Academy which also invited. They are Sekolah Tinggi Teknologi Adisutjipto or STTA and Sekolah Tinggi Teknologi Kedirgantaraan or STTKD. There are total eleven universities that were invited.

It started at 1 pm, but the students had to be on the way to the picking point at 12 pm. The students who were joining this event have to be picked up by the officers who were the Liaison Officer of each university. They have to do that because the only allowed vehicle is the military vehicles. On the first day was opening ceremony done with military system. Then continued with a preparation for the gathering night in the next day. All of the participants had to perform something in the gathering night including the officers.

The second day started at 5 am. Unfortunately, some of the agendas were cancelled due to the limit of time. Other than that, were ran accordingly. There were discussions in the second day. The first one was about cross culture understanding with the speaker came from the Royal Australia Air Force and the commander of the Indonesia Air Force Academy. The second one was about drug abuse that the speaker came from National Narcotics Bureau. Then the participants visited the Dirgantara Mandala Museum in the afternoon. In the night, all of the participants attended the gathering night and watched some performances from university students and the officers.

In the last day, there were outdoors activities such as walking around the academy and outbound. After the outdoors activities, the participants gathered in the main hall of the academy, the same as where the opening ceremony were conducted, Gedung Sabang Merauke to hold the closing ceremony that also conducted with military system. In the end, after the event ended, all the participants accompanied by their liaison officers came back to the universities. (SUTA, PBI 2014).
